This “Outstanding” Offsted inspected 820 pupil Technology College in the Shropshire County Town of Shrewsbury, required a much- needed refurbishment of its production kitchen in the summer of 2018 when the existing catering facility required upgrading following the removal of asbestos within the ceiling areas.
The existing facility was completely ‘gutted’ and the equipment “footprint” was reduced whilst still accommodating the existing equipment and allowing further expansion.
The reinstatement of the kitchen required a new extraction system with supply air, service distribution unit to accept existing cabling, integral canopy lighting and gas interlock with plant positioned on the adjacent roof utilising existing apertures. Future proofing of the system was also a client requirement and our design team made provision for a tempered air solution, served by school hot water heating system, and allowed for the further integration of odour control equipment.
The implementation of the system took place with the complete consultation of our project partners in kitchen design, building works, electrical and gas engineering and the Schools own project coordinator; and the total installation was carried out by our dedicated installation team – on time and on budget – during the school’s summer holidays.
When further demand required, at short notice, an upgrade to existing Hot Cupboards, our partners at Swift Maintenance Services were on hand to turn around dedicated, bespoke units tailored to suit the existing modular worktops.
